An ode to New Cross

You seemed sound tumbling down
I staggered out at eight with a redundant head
Killed it with cheap vodka
Revived it with MDMA
Mud
Ma
Stumbled out into the street past groups of schoolgirls laughing
Thought I was - I don't know where
But I was in New Cross
With its grey-stained highway that cut a swathe through my head that morning
Maybe I never recovered
But the sun was shining that day
I limped home and threw up on some weeds on the driveway
Just a small orange mouthful
You could hardly tell it was there.

New Cross hasn't changed

New Cross hasn't changed then. I know that grey-stained highway well from my youth. A well-created atmosphere.

"I staggered out at eight
"I staggered out at eight with a redundant head". What a great line. Leaves me wanting more.
