To become

so I waited.
waited until you couldn't see my hands
before they became pink and yellow and white
squeezed crinkly spirals.
waited until you couldn't hear me
before grinding my teeth the way
you hate.
waited until you couldn't see any of me
before pointing my toes, arching my back
rolling my eyes, shaking my fist at the ceiling,
sticking my tongue out
as far as it would go.
you're wrong.
wrong about the crackling, splintering crashes
miles away in forests.
wrong about the music
playing in an empty room.
you're wrong, but you're busy
and you're leaving.
tonight you will create your friends,
assembling them from the ether
with your silent fingertips
as you walk into a room.
you closed the door and I disappeared.
so I waited.
