Easy

Is a love that is easy

truly a love at all?

For in my experience

real love was gained in times of hardship

in times of fear

in times of knowing

that without that one

your heart would break

and the whole world would hear its crash

I do not want an easy love

for they never strike the fear of loss

yet seem to numb you to the feeling of raindrops on your skin

they never inspire you to write

the most heartfelt of letters

or paint

the most beautiful remnants of fading memories

but I ask you, my friend

how easy is too easy?

and how hard is too hard?

is there an in-between?

an island on which you could run to each side

embrace the comfort of easy

and later charge at the challenge of hard?

or are we cursed to live forever

in a satisfaction limbo?
