The Men Are Doing Business

The jingoistic crowd blocked all the streets that lead up to Congress. This mass of people a juggernaut not to be disintegrated by any threatening police squad, their ferocious canine sidekicks in tow. No! A law was being discussed just behind closed doors and the public eagerly awaited the news.
"Jurisprudence may have failed us this time, Congressman Jones."
"Indeed, that is a possibility. Just look outside! I cannot see hardly one square inch of the pavement. We have clearly upset them, Mr.President, Sir. Where have we gone wrong? My job is to better serve the public. Clearly I am not doing it right, or else we would not be trapped in this marble fortress."
"Now Raymond, we are in this together, both civil servants of the state who have the citizens' best interest in mind. And just because they do not like our decision does not mean we are not doing our jobs. Not everyone likes whats best for them."
"I know, I know. I just wish they could understand our choice. By God, they must conceive that the country they live in is run by a kakistocracy! How embarrassing!"
"Let them think what they will. We are right in our decision and much more informed than they. Try not to worry. This is but a lilliputian set-back that will cease to put this project at a disadvantage.
"If you say so, sir..."
