In Your Light

Whether a scavenger hunt under the covers,
or a tender lèvres aux lèvres,
my legs always turn to jelly.
I am weak with unfettered elation.
It bubbles up through every vein and out through every pore.
My furrowed brow melts away and I feel weightless,
impervious to the anchoring forces of earthly life.
My nerves calm at the touch of his warm palms
when they are pressed reassuringly against my cheek
and brush wandering strands of hair from my face.
My self image vanishes in a cloud of dust.
I come alive in the reflection of his eyes,
found at last in the refractions off his glassy caramel pupils
as they soak up my presence.
Fix on my visage your glittering star-lit gaze and never let go!
Though I am no shadow in my own right,
his affection works like magic on a lamp:
gifting me an effervescent glow
by the warmth of his smile,
by the soapy smell of his hair,
by the gentleness of his touch,
by the urgency in his lips,
by every word he says and means.
What without his affections,
I am broken.
Every hour is devoted to inspiring a ever rare and fleeting smile
that strikes me sick with stomach butterflies
against which I have no defense.
Nor do I seek one.
I am filled with hope with as little as a glance.
Enough to burst.
Without his warmth I am running on fumes.
Please never let me reach empty.
