Breaking you gently;
The more gentle I am
The more you break.
I have crushed you with my kindness
Not understanding
Cruelty
As kindness.
I continued to squeeze until you
Came up for air
‘another try’
I have crushed you with my kindness
Now I’ll break you with the truth
It’s over.
Gently you will break
smashed slowly
piece into fragile piece.
The light in your eyes, creases in your cheeks as you smile
In disbelief.
Your grip on my hand is
Not
Gentle.
You will break me with your sadness
You have cooked for and cuddled, lavished me with presents I have
Taken it all -
Broken you
Gently.
