Lily

You were palm-sized when you arrived
Wide-eyed and wrinkled
Spent every day from then by Angela's side
Enjoying all things simple
We called you sausage, Lil and Likin
And all took delight
In stroking your head
And your velvety ears and their silky skin
You were an unofficial employee (and probably the best)
At the firm in Takeley
Curled up under the desk
Regal in your bed, like a queen, almost stately!
The original furry baby
You accepted two new brothers with ease
But were always happiest on Angela's knee
Or eating bowls of Chappie
Over the years, your wrinkles dropped
And your face went from black to grey
Long walks had to stop and snoozing increased
But you still liked a bit of a fun and a play
We weren't ready to say goodbye just yet Lil
Least of all on holiday
But we're grateful for all the years we've had with you
So, with heavy hearts
And full of love
We send you on your way...

Captures those mixed feelings
Captures those mixed feelings when we say goodbye to a beloved pet - the joy they've given us and the sadness of loss. We're never ready to lose them. This was a lovely read.
