So it must have been after the birth of the Ku Klux Klan
In the first, bright light, the spellbound hugged themselves
In their fields of late-cropped hate
That simple light that won the fight with a whinnying voice
Honoured among plutocrats, mob presidents and rightists
Under the new-laid laws and new-laid happiness
Running dogs of capitalism ran in their heedless ways
In the windfall light, their chants ran astray
Time allows a lull, for all that was white, more light
Before children can no longer be gay
Follow up with God’s grace
Let necessary evil have its Sabbath
Let new Jerusalem have its day
Armageddon shines eternally bright
Golden mushroom clouds rolling out of sight—Judgement Day.

Evil is all around
There's evil everywhere. Even those who preach against it can be carriers. How has it survived this long? It seems to be getting stronger. I despair!

'Let new Jerusalem have its day.'
Wonderful use of allusion which is a departure for you, CM. You are usually so direct.
It's a brilliant, relevant, meaningful poem.

A good poem. We know roughly
A good poem. We know roughly what you are meaning without spelling it out too directly. I do like the way you have put this together. Yes evil and the drift towards more warfare and politics, ethics and economics in decline are well expressed.
