Lenny Mass's Branhal School Diary - Monday 8 September

Monday 8 September,
Today, in P.E, we played Magic Dodgeball. It's like normal dodgeball, except instead of simply ducking when the ball is thrown at you, you have to think fast, and say a spell to stop the ball. It got blown up three times.
Poor Wendy was on one team with Michelle. Nettie and me were on the other. The game was going well, til Michelle 'dodged the ball'.
She made it freeze in mid air; then it dropped to her feet. Michelle picked it up and called out: "NETTIE!"
Before Nettie even realised her name had been called out, Michelle had thrown the ball.
The ball smacked Nettie in the face with full force. Michelle was happy with herself, and called out: "YES! I WIN!"
But I kept my eye on the little figure lying quite still on the ground. I wasn't the only one. Nobody had listened to Michelle's declaration of winner as the whole class and Mrs Dyer went running over to Nettie.
She was lying with her head to one side, and her left arm in an awkward postition behind her head. She was awake, but whimpering quietly. Me and Wendy sat with her while Mrs Dyer sent Kim and Laura, two other girls in our class, to find Miss Burns our form teacher.
I looked up in time to see Mrs Dyer and the class rounding on Michelle; I caught the look of anger as Michelle realised the attention was on her for the wrong reason.
"Why did you do that?" Mrs Dyer asked.
"It's the aim of the game," Michelle answered, sarcastically.
"Don't be smart, Miss Corner. I explained the rules at the beginning of the lesson. You shout your opponant's name, and you wait until they are ready. I think you had better go to Mr and Mrs Branhal's office."
Michelle glared a really ugly look, and then stormed off.
My eyes are beginning to close, so I'll give you a brief summary of what happened next. An ambulance arrived for Nettie. She looked so fragile as she was lifted onto the ambulance bed. Michelle didn't show up for lessons the rest of the day. Not that any of us were complaining. I think the whole class wanted to hit her.
During the last lesson of the day, the headmistress, Mrs Branhal, came to our classroom, and asked for me and the twins. We were happy to leave History.
Once we were in their office, the two headteachers told us that Nettie was staying in hospital overnight, being healed by magic. Her neck was sprained, and her left wrist and elbow were broken. As her best friends, we were allowed the day off school on Wednesday to visit Nettie, by which time she should be home.
Mr and Mrs Branhal went on to tell us they were suspicious that Michelle had done it on purpose. She had been suspended for fourteen full schooldays, and would be back Monday 29 September.
My handwriting is really messy when I'm writing quickly.
Goodnight,
Lenny
