Sunday 12 October
Mum dropped me off at the twins' house at eleven this morning. As she waved and drove off, I noticed Michelle stood on a doorstep two houses down, talking to a woman with short, grey hair. I knew I shouldn't have done, but I listened to them before I knocked on the twins' front door.
"I can't let you inside, Mrs Nella, my parents are home."
"That's ok, dear. I just want to let you know that I got your note on my desk on Friday. We need three boys and three girls for the spell to work. You have four girls and only two boys. Tomorrow, de-friend one of the girls and replace her with a boy in your class."
Without saying another word, Mrs Nella melted into the ground. Michelle went to shut her door, and saw me standing there.
"Got a good look, Charlene! Didn't your mother teach you it's rude to eavesdrop! Anyway, what are you doing here? Spying on me?" She smiled horribly, and disappeared inside her house.
The front door to the house I was standing in front of opened, and Wendy poked her head out.
"Ah! I wondered who Muller Corner was shouting at. In you come, Len!"
"Did you hear who she talking to? Apart from me?" I asked, as Wendy shut the door.
She frowned. "No. Only what she was shouting at you."
I told her the conversation I heard between Michelle and Mrs Nella. Wendy looked shocked as she led me into the living room; where I repeated everything to Johnny.
He got off the settee, and got a book off the wooden bookshelf in the corner of the room. A big one with a black cover.
"This is a book on written spells," he explained. "Like, you have to write the spell down for it to work."
He opened the book, and flipped through it, studying each page. I looked at Wendy. She shrugged her shoulders: my brother's weird.
He looked up at us. "Sorry girls," he grinned. He pointed at the page he'd stopped at
Noititep
When six or more people sign a petition, this spell makes the petition unbreakable. For example, if you sign a petition to get a TV show back on TV, if the person to whom the petition is sent doesn't comply, that person will be imprisoned inside a circular bubble for all eternity.
There must be equal amount of gender: For example, three males and three females, and everyone must write the spell down.
The spell to write down is as follows:
Noititep! Woititep! Make our petition unbreakable!
We all looked at each other.
"That's what Michelle and the librarian are doing!" Johnny said. "They're drawing up a petition for some reason. And that explains why Michelle's gained friends all of a sudden!"
"Well no, not really," Wendy replied. "It's obvious she used a mind controlling spell on them, especially Nettie."
"We-ell, yeah. But Michelle wanted revenge after the dodgeball incident. She's making Nettie think they're friends, so she can bully Nettie easier. And now Michelle is putting other people under the spell for this petition."
"What petition though?" I asked. "And how has Mrs Nella roped Michelle into helping her?" I gasped as I suddenly thought of something. "Unless Michelle's mind is being controlled as well!"
Johnny picked out Mind Boggling Magic from the bookshelf, and flipped to the back. "There are spells to reverse the mind control ones. If we can think of the spell that's making Nettie think she's Michelle's friend, then tomorrow, somehow, we'll reverse it."
Even though we're born already with the knowledge of magic, thinking of spells isn't always obvious. Johnny looked for it in Mind Boggling Magic. He found it a few minutes later. It was a 'friend' spell - You say the person's name, and then the word 'dirfen'. To reverse it, you say 'nefrid.' To make sure the person didn't go under the spell again - 'nefrid nerfid'
I agreed to sit next to Nettie on the bus tomorrow morning and try 'nefrid nerfid' out.
Can't wait to see if it works.
Goodnight,
Lenny
