Tuesday 2 September,
I actually made it on the bus this morning. Th ere were no empty seats. The only one not next to a scary older student was next to a timid little girl, who smiled shyly, and asked if I was the girl sent out of Maths yesterday for saying a naughty word.
"Yes," I said. "I'm Charlene, Lenny for short. What's your name?"
"Jeanette. My mum calls me Nettie. I saw that girl kick your leg yesterday. She stole my seat before class started."
"Did she?" Why was this girl so nasty.
"Yeah, I was sat in the seat behind you. She told me to move. And she told me which seat to sit in."
Why was this girl so nasty?
It turned out Nettie had found it hard to make friends, because she found it hard to talk to people she didn't know. I told her to sit with me and the twins in lessons and dinner.
The first lesson was Maths again. I noticed the blonde girl was already seated, so I led Nettie to the other side of the classroom. Johnny and Wendy joined us seconds later.
"New seat today," Johnny smiled. "Who's your new friend?"
I introduced Nettie; at the same time, noticing the blonde girl coming over. She looked straight at Nettie. "She's in my seat."
"No she's not," I retorted. "She's in her own seat."
"Well, I want to sit there."
"Tough."
"When I ask for something, I always get it."
"Oh really?" Johnny smirked. "Would you like snake's hair?"
Before the blonde girl could answer, her hair was replaced with angry hissing snakes. The blonde girl screamed. The whole class erupted with laughter, and I saw Johnny wink at Nettie. It was at that moment that Mrs East arrived, saw what was going on, pointed a finger at the blonde girl, and the snakes disappeared.
"Quiet!" Mrs East shouteld. "Michelle, stop messing around and sit down!"
Well, my hand is cramping, so I'll finish today's entry.
Goodnight,
Lenny
