Wednesday 10 September
Went to visit Nettie today.
The twins live in the village next to the school, so their dad picked me up on their way to the village where Nettie lives.
Her mum smiled brightly as she let us in and showed us to the living room, where Nettie was lying on the settee, watching a Harry Potter movie. She sat up slowly when she saw us.
"I don't get why we don't learn Potions and how to fly," she said. "We get boring lessons like Maths and Geography. Plus it looks kind of fun to stay at a boarding school."
"Because it's a film," Johnny answered. "It was written by a normal person who didn't know anything about witches and wizards," he sat next to Nettie. "Brilliant movies though."
"Books are better," I said, as I sat on the other side of Nettie.
"I can't believe you two," Wendy said, as she sat in the chair opposite. "We come here to see how Nettie is, and you start talking about Harry Potter!"
"Nettie started it," Johnny replied, childishly.
"How is your arm?" I asked.
"Fully healed," she answered. "I stayed in hospital overnight. There were four different nurses blasting spells all night at my arm and neck, to mend the bones. Mr and Mrs Branhal said I can rest here for the rest of the week, then come back to school on Monday. What was Michelle like yesterday?"
"She didn't come in," Wendy said. "She's been suspended for fourteen school days."
"OH!" Johnny suddenly yelled. "I can't believe I've just remembered!" He waved his hand and an A4 sized envelope appeared on his lap.
"Craig, Ross and Matthew brought this in yesterday, and the whole class signed it. I just suddenly realised I'd left it on my bed." Johnny glared at his sister. "You didn't remind me."
Wendy shrugged. "I'm not responsible for you."
Nettie had opened the card, and was smiling widely as she read what everyone had written. "I love it," she beamed.
We sat in silence for five minutes watching Harry Potter. It was the first one, and Hermione had just said the '...or worse, expelled,' line
"How could J.K Rowling not know we're born with the knowledge of magic, and don't need to learn it?" Nettie asked.
"Sh!" I said. "Because she's normal, and doesn't know anything about us."
"I think normal people know we exist," Johnny said. "How would they know to write books about us, and dress up as us for Hallowe'en?"
"They know we exist," I said. "They just don't know anything about us."
"That's what I said earlierWe need to track down J.K Rowling, and set her straight."
"Yeah, ok," Wendy mocked. "The four idiots and their quest to find J.K Rowling?"
I've been writing for half an hour, and this is the longest diary entry I've written so far. My hand's got black ink all over, and it's starting to cramp. I'll wrap up quickly.
Nettie's mum invited us to stay Saturday night for a Harry Potter sleepover. When the twins' dad picked us up, she thanked us for cheering Nettie up
An hour before I started writing today's entry, Ross phoned to ask how Nettie was, which I thought was nice.
Right, I'm done.
Goodnight,
Lenny
