Enshrined

There you cast down burden
One of the countless many
Atop the alter of my empathy.
For that which you cannot rectify
Guilt enamored by the dimest light
Of my encroaching beacon of sincerity
No nails or cross
necessarily provided
As the deep etchings of pain
bleed through these tired aimless eyes.
So it is that what is given
Must never be taken in return
Beholden before this memorial
Erected from fresh wounds
Over the recourse of a lifetime.
Candles once lit to guide you
Slowly burn away left unattended
My shrine falls silent again
To your prayers and pleas
Fading into a forgotten mythology.
Enshrined to be the bearer
Of a foray of pain and regret
In the end however nature
Takes over in due time.
Eventually the worshipers vanish
Vines begin to choke
This once sacred visage
Wind and rain begin to crack
The stone face of your God.
Stillness now rests in my ruin
No patrons remain to tend
Peaceful am I with this hurt
As one of the many deitys
Erased after their purpose is served.
