and so I sigh
a gentle breeze may
cool foreheads with a kiss,
ruffle a child’s hair,
uplift a butterfly,
sow a flower seed,
raise a petal from gutter
into dancing sunshine,
and so I sigh.

I will love you long
after our lock on the bridge
is rust; the bridge span
broken, tide-washed to the sea…
you will have forgotten me.

an unknown woman
passes the library window,
in her middle years,
dignified, dressed modestly,
she is beautiful,
yes beautiful, and unaware
that behind the dusty glass
she is quietly admired.

a sighting of the Isle of Hoy from Mainland
we had to return
this one last time to listen
to the black- head gulls
and watch the otters bobbing
in the ripples of Harray
the loch was tranquil
then clouds scudded from the West,
as the wind strengthened
our umbrellas buckled - it’s
ink-black now and Hoy has gone.

please indulge these shorties - it's Yom Kippur tomorrow so I cannot post online. I'm not especially religious but YK is a good time for reflection :)
