Kali Yuga 2025
The time of the mad emperors.
Then it became the age of iron,
When the jester became the king;
And the hurdy-gurdy man got paid
To sing his songs without a rhyme;
Then we sold the farm for fool’s gold,
Because we threw away the fruit
And instead preferred the rind.
As for the nation – honey never mind,
We’ll just follow the new Golden King,
And be grateful to obey his commands
By helping him to steal even more land;
Maybe then we’ll get a slice of the pie,
Unless the hurdy-gurdy man’s been
In the kings pantry eating the cream
So, we’ll have to be so damned bold,
Applying all our pent up might and
Recouping our former fortunes of old,
By reclaiming what was ours by right;
While our business billionaires sail on
Until they sail out of sight while upon
The sand our mighty castle will stand.
But then we found that the clock lied,
And the sandcastle melted in the tide,
As the politicians perfected their lies,
Which then became the only currency.
Because the Joker had stolen the key
To where the nation kept its integrity,
When the truth in its shame had died.

I’d never heard of Kali Yuga
I’d never heard of Kali Yuga before so I’ve been down a few depressing rabbit holes via google since reading this. What a world.
Thanks for adding the picture credit dougie. It’s copyright free ?

426,874 years and counting
I too had to do a Google for Kali Yuga as I hadn't previously heard of it. I read that it's the worst of the four Yugas, it began 5,126 years ago and there are 426,874 years of it still to go. So now I'm really in the party mood.
I enjoyed your poem though Dougie. It has a bit of the Don McLeans about it.

truth and shame, who takes
truth and shame, who takes the blame? The moron's moron for me. But he didn't destroy our integrity.

A least I now know WHY
A least I now know WHY everything has gone to hell in a handcart. It's all part of the cycle. It's comforting to know that this too shall pass, even if not until umpty thousand years into the future.
Great poem and a truly magnificent picture!
