What about the future of the planet and the future of humanity? Are these not important? What makes God so important?

I have in mind what Maynard Keynes said, "In the long run we're all dead". What makes God important is what makes the future of humanity important to us after we're dead. I wonder if I'm going to regret starting this. Thanks for your response all the same.

May I expand the comment above ? The question "What makes God so important?" is redundant if God does not exist. Alternatively, if God does exist,it is preposterous. God is infinite and omnipotent. How's that for being important? I hope that doesn't seem aggressive, I really am grateful for your interest. Cheers.
