Northern Lights

I hear the old man play the blues
On his memoired saxophone
I see kids running out on the streets
Waiting til their old folks come home
Smoke pours from the chimneys
Like rain from a sudden cloudburst
My throat feels as dry and as red as my eyes
I need another drink to quench my thirst
And I can see it all
It appears so clear
And no more will I roam
The northern skies
Over northern towns
The northern lights of home (the ones I love so dear)
The shop still lies at the end of the street
The one selling yesterdays news
The horn of the factory sounds at five
I hear the shuffle of the working man's shoes
The old school is still standing
With the big clock that never rings
I never really knew until I came home
How I miss the way the blackbird sings
And I can see it all
It appears so clear
And no more will I roam
The northern skies
Over northern towns
The northern lights of home (the ones I love so dear)
There's a star up in the northern sky
It's burning for you and I
I've seen other skies when I was away
But none can compare to the northern lights
And I know I'm home to stay (to stay)
And I can see it all
It appears so clear
And no more will I roam
The northern skies
Over northern towns
The northern lights of home (the ones I love so dear)
