Autumn Sun and Dark Clouds: Brexit, Donald Trump and the Kurds

Autumn Sun, the only kind of Indian Summer we’re going to get now.
Never been here before, but it’s very near to Wentworth where my wife and I had our wedding festivities only a few years ago. My dad once bought a house nearby for rent to tenants.
There are young couples walking around the reservoir, young enough to be daughters and sons, even grandchildren. Some are closer to my age. And the dogs nearly outnumber the people.
Meanwhile Brexit is being decided as I write, sat on a park seat, by the procrastination and attention to detail of parliament. You can tell the government just wants to get it done as quickly as possible. So does Europe, as we now at least understand. It has been three and a half years since the referendum, and we seem no nearer consensus upon the future. Parties pulling in all directions, parties within parties, pulling themselves apart and separating, changing alliances and affiliations.
And a darker cloud hangs overhead, just as I write this. The Americans it seems can no longer be trusted to look after their allies. Does it mean we could be cast aside like the Kurds, treated like we don’t matter at all by a child of a President, not even man enough to stand by his friends.
And there is a quiet revolution going on in America. A corner has been turned. The military people are deeply wounded in their hearts, because they like to think they are in the right, and they don’t desert their friends! The Republican Party is finally turning. The man they thought was theirs has let them down, and the honour code is breached. The President has not got much longer to rule now. His time is nearly up. Patience with him is gone!
