The Battle of the Wolves

What did I have in my long drunken years?
Trouble and turmoil devastation and tears
I could never see it was King Alcohol
That fed on my fears and made me feel small
Cream of the Barley made me look a right Charlie
I just couldn’t think when I needed a drink
The liquor held me in a strong vice-like grip
The craving took over after only one sip
For years I was living in the depths of despair
The “Bad Wolf” was in charge and he didn’t care
It was only when madness or death was nearby
That the “Good Wolf” awakened and looked me in the eye
He said you’ve decisions to make here today
If you choose the wrong options you’ll die in dismay
What must I do to escape from disaster?
You must change your thinking and find a new master
If you can’t find the answer to this liquid cancer
Then the “Bad Wolf” will grin for he knows he will win
The “Good Wolf” is your conscience & fights for your cause
So give him a chance to use his fangs and claws
Get up off your backside and fight for your life
Don’t let the “Bad Wolf” cause more trouble and strife
It may not be easy but don’t be a bluffer
If you don’t win this battle it’s not just you who will suffer
You have people who love you and want to see you get well
They’ll all be behind you on this journey from hell
If your courage absconds they will be there with you
To help make the right choices for what you must do
The “Good Wolf” can win if you give him a chance
The goodness within you is his battle lance
I know this is true for I’ve been down these trails
I am winning the battle and the “Good Wolf” prevails.
