ART
John Everett Millais, of The Brotherhood,
Helped both his fellow members if he could,
Gabriel Rossetti and Holman Hunt,
With Millais, presented a common front.
Millais painted Ophelia made sad
Hamlet’s rejection was what sent her mad.
The water saturating her silk gown,
Was the very thing that dragged her down.
Lizzie Siddall was Millais’ choice of face,
She brought to the painting stillness and grace.
Millais kept her working all through the night,
Rossetti, her lover, thought it not right.
But Millais incurred Lizzie’s father’s wrath,
Because she was kept too long in the bath.
And she nearly died by catching her death,
Her father thought she had drawn her last breath.
Back with the Pre-Raphaelites for a while,
They soon had very good reason to smile.
The Brotherhood all worked hard at their art,
Though Lizzie and Dante, the lovers, did part.
Coming to the end of this artful tale,
With the paintings no longer up for sale,
And Mozart having penned his last sonata,
Any more from him a total non starter!
Thank you for sticking with this till the end,
If looking for paintings watch what you spend.
I think I’m all done with music and art,
So bid you goodnight it’s time now to part.
