The smell and sight of wood
The smell and sight of wood smoke is probably one of my favourite things about winter, even though it's a bit pollutiony. The smoke from the petchkas / wood stoves in our village each winter morning (except when it's windy) creates such a wonderful old, rustic atmosphere,

reminds me that it's such a shame that these old trees, often older than me (believe it or not), are cut down for fuel or for celebration purposes. Thankfully the forests regenerate ... usually.
So ... one more letter to go. I've really enjoyed this series of short poems of yours, though collectively they could be seen as on long poem. Excellent reading, either way. Perhaps next December I'll try to do the same using our Cyrillic alphabet. But what wintry words begin with ф, я and ю?

I suppose sometimes the logs
I suppose sometimes the logs were trees blown down in winter winds? We have a yew tree that started s a little self-seeding sapling, but has grown quite a big bush, and we now have to keep it from getting too big! Rhiannon
