AIN’T NO LOVE (IN A HOUSE THAT’S BUILT ON WAR)
Broken plates inform my growing teenage mind
Drunken violence, empty bottles keep me locked up on the inside
Lunch of bread and dripping.Gym class in my pants.
Mum at hospital with another of her ‘accidents’
Ain’t no love in a house that’s built on war
Ain’t no love in a house that’s built on war
Married young and then repented it in style
Worked in factories to try and make my work my woman smile
Built a place together, baby on the way.
I’d been drinking, hit her once now she’s gone to stay
Ain’t no love in a house that’s built on war.
Ain’t no love in a house that’s built on war.
The rattle and hum of the factory line
The sense that I have been losing my time
Is this all I’ve achieved since the day I was born
Don’t know what it is but here’s got to be more.
Booze and anger are my father’s legacy
It’s reflected in this greying, worn out face I see
I had a chance at love and threw it all away
I guess it’s down to me. The only thing that I can say is
Ain’ t no love in a house that’s built on war
Ain’ t no love in a house that’s built on war
This was collaboration with Simon Wells of Simon and The Astronauts.
