Inspiration

Inspiration is anti-fashion;
it holds no political beliefs
nor takes notice of celebrity;
it isn't sports minded,
pretty, handsome
or in tune with the world.

What it is,
however,
is elusive.

Inspiration is a whisper,
breathless in the ear;
a shaft of light through
an autumn canopy;
it is as delicate as
a first tentative kiss.

What is isn’t,
however,
is timely.

It comes and goes,
when it pleases,
like a mangy tom cat,
demanding to be fed
then spraying on the couch
before disappearing
into the night.

Inspiration,
damn you,
come to me.
