Adrian Edmonson's finger person
is challenging me to a fight
having killed his five sirens,
but that is okay,
because I can't stop laughing.
I have my own finger person,
perfectly white,
like ivory,
soft as cushions.
He defecates on the pavement
and marvels
at the flies
that eat it.
He is very popular.
I take him home to clean him
and feed him milk.
He is happy
and so I go to see my friends.
I have to drive them to kickboxing,
but I don't know the way
so they direct me.
The next day,
they need another lift.
While I am waiting for them to get ready
a girl tells me she is having difficulty
with her studies at school,
her grades are not very good.
I tell her to make sure the teacher sees
that she is putting in the effort,
even if she does not get the grades
her hard work will be appreciated.
I even give her a personal example.
"... and visualise what you are learning," I say,
"not the person teaching you."
She is having difficulty with biology
so we imagine a pair of lungs
expanding
and deflating,
like a pair of white
Sainsbury's bags.
I am still waiting for my friends
So I plan my route
To avoid asking for directions again.
I get a map
and see various pictures of England,
but like an atlas.
I know there are street maps in here,
but I can't find them.
One of my friends comes to help,
but as we turn the pages
all I see is pictures
of Indian men and women,
first in suits and saris
and then
as I continue to flick
through the pages
again and again
they are
completely covered from head to toe
in blankets, towels, rags,
anything,
so that all that can be seen
is their eyes.
The men look sick,
as though their garments
are bandages.
I give up on the map,
and still I am waiting for my friends.
I decide to get some music
for the trip.
I find a French CD,
my 'Movie Killers' CD
and a Simpson's CD.
Homer Simpson is in a dole office.
He writes his name on a blackboard
and all the people who were queuing up groan
and begin to leave ...
Then
Bart
bursts
onto
the scene
and rubs off what Homer wrote.
He replaces it
With a message of his own
and then leaps from the blackboard.
Everyone is jubilant.
There is music.
Michael Jackson style.
He begins to sing.
