Whether it was seconds, minutes or hours that had passed when she opened her eyes, Jane had no idea. She could now feel her body but still struggled to move even her fingers, a minute went by before she could regain her senses and strength enough to crawl towards one of the flowerpots in the corridor and lie beside it. She had started to massage her legs in an attempt to make them react when she heard them, not the big hellish sound that had chased her all night, but people, coming up the stairs, a cramp hit her stomach like a punch and her dry mouth suddenly made her feel like she could not breathe; but when she saw them coming up the stairs Jane had no energy left for more panicking, she just kept touching and hitting her legs as the movement slowly returned to them.
“A little too late” – She said staring at her limbs, as if she expected a voice to talk back. Strangely she got not one but three, Jane turned to look at the men and saw them arguing with each other, she only deduced that from the loud noises they made and how they were pushing one another, three of them, midway through the staircase. Out of nowhere one of them threw a shining knife near the boxes, but nothing happened and the yelling came back -The trap?- She was too far to make out what they were saying but if the trap in the floor below had done some damage then they would surely be hesitant to run right into another, Jane found in that thought hope enough to panic again; the yelling got louder once she began to crawl, shortly after she had raised to her knees and seconds later to her feet, and behind her the men went silent – Bad sign – she told herself before tripping and falling to her knees again, her feet still too numb to walk properly.
Then she heard it, one of the blue men ran at full speed up the staircase screaming his lungs out, Jane knew her time was running short and she tried to get up; but her sight closed in the traps, victim of the curiosity of knowing what would happen. She held her breath for a heartbeat and her eyes widened in the next when the man in blue stepped in the nineteenth floor and activated the traps. Green, Yellow, blue, red and orange lights swirled around the man letting out a buzzing sound, almost inaudible next to the deafening screams of the paralyzed invader that echoed around the room, the man spasmed with such violence that for a moment Jane thought that he would indeed explode as she had wished –Keep moving you idiot- She could not take her eyes of him, his cry and twitching body conveyed such pain that Jane almost pitied him; but soon after the flashing lights around him started to get dimer and she snapped, remembering the other two waiting for the trap to die off to climb up and kill her too.
