Ryder eyed the smoke filled bar in distaste. Not only was the place disgusting to see, it was practically falling apart. It was a hazard zone... he could die because the roof collapsed on itself.
“Having fun yet?” Indigo glanced at him, smirking. He pulled out a cigarette. “You got a lighter?” The dark haired man glanced at Indigo and dug in his jacket pocket, pulling out a blue lighter and holding it out wordlessly. Indigo took it and lit his cigarette, handing it back when he was finished.
“Thank you.” he breathed, taking a long drag and letting the smoke blow threw his lips. “Alright, shall we? I’ll buy the drinks.” He smiled. Ryder took his lighter and shoved it back in his pocket as he huffed slightly.
“Fine.” He muttered walking forward and pushing the door open, he flinched at the scratchy sound of broken speakers blasting music. He glanced around, nearly choking on the smoky air, bringing a hand automatically to his nose in shock. He had only been in a bar twice... and it had not been like this. He stepped back as a half-naked hooker slid past him, too close for comfort. Ryder looked towards the dance floor and frowned at how closely packed the crowd of people where.
Indigo looked around, not surprised at all. He took a deep breath and headed for the bar, turning to make sure Hunter followed. “Watch yourself, the girls here are… well… persistent.” He chuckled. “If you let them get too far, they’ll make you pay.” He pushed past the people, a pair of bar stools in sight.
“Hey there, mister.” A shorter brunette woman wearing the scraps of a shirt and what looked like panties slid in front of Indigo as he headed for the bar. “You look like a man that know how to have some fun. Mind if I join you?” The woman wrapped her arms around the taller man, giving him a seductive look and hanging on him a little.
“Um… No.” Indigo declined, holding his hands up and gently pushing her away. “I’m already in good company, thanks.” He replied.
“Oh come on, sweetheart.” She pushed, sliding her hands down his body. She leaned in, standing on her tip toes to lick at his chin as she slid her hand into his pocket carefully. “I think I can give you a great time.”
Ryder eyed the whore unhappily as he watched her wrap around Indigo. His eyes snapped to her hands as she reached back into his partner’s pockets. He reached forward and grabbed her wrist, and jerked her away roughly.
“You’re disgusting. Go away.” He deadpanned. Indigo blinked and narrowed his eyes realizing what had happened and he reached back, sliding his wallet snuggly in his pocket. He glared at the women his expression turning from kind to disgust in only a second.
“I agree, leave us.” He huffed. “Come on, Hunter.” He tore the woman’s hands from his and pushed her away. Ryder huffed and turned away, uncaring of the women's feelings. Woman were all trouble in these kinds of places. Ryder followed Indigo’s back, doing everything physically possible to skirt around the people and not touch them.
“Good eye, partner.” Indigo gave the other man an affectionate pat on the shoulder, smiling warmly. “Thank you.” He added, genuinely. Ryder huffed and turned away.
“Hunter. It’s not my name. I'm not on the job.” He said simply, folding his hands on the counter. Indigo blinked.
“Is that so? We’ve worked together for a long time… Everyone calls you Hunter.” He said, not particularly surprised. “What is your name when you’re not working then?”
“Ryder.” The boy glanced at him, maroon eyes almost a pink color in the flashing lights before he looked away again. Indigo nodded approvingly.
“Ryder.” He repeated thoughtfully.
“Hmph, don't tell anyone else. I don't wish to be connected to the group any more than I am.” Ryder said simply. Indigo grinned, shaking his head slightly.
“You know I won’t say anything. But you know, Ryder, since I’m calling you that it means you’re not currently working and that means we can have a little fun tonight. Correct?”
“I thought that’s what you dragged me here for.” Ryder huffed.
“You’re damn right it is.” Indigo laughed, “What do you want to drink then?”
“Water.”
“Oh come on. We’re here to have fun remember? Get something more than water.” Indigo prodded.
“Tch, beer is fine.” Ryder said unhappily.
“That a boy.” Indigo grinned. He flagged down the bartender and ordered for the both of them. He took one last drag on the cigarette before putting it out in the ashtray and turning his full attention to his partner. Ryder watched the bartender silently, eyes on the man’s hands as the bartender made the drink. Once the beers were set in front of them Ryder frowned at it waiting for it to stop fizzing in the cup.
“Don’t be so high strung all the time.” Indigo advised playfully. “He’s a bartender in a place like this, I don’t think he’s going to try and kill you.” He teased, taking a long drink of the yellowish liquid.
“I'm not high strung.” Ryder disagreed.
“If you say so, kid.” Indigo chuckled. “Please just keep in mind that you’re here to have fun.”
“I am having fun.” Ryder deadpanned, taking the beer and sipping at the bitter liquid.
“Are you? Are you really?” Indigo asked, suddenly more serious. “We can go to a different bar if you like?”
“No. this is fine.” Ryder said, glancing at Indigo, unamused. A bit of silence fell between the two men, the music thumping through their bodys.
“Hunt- Ryder.” Indigo inquired gently, breaking the silence. “Bud, I’ve been meaning to talk to you about something.” Indigo paused, gathering his thoughts. “You and I have been together a long time…” He said fondly. “We’ve done some pretty good jobs and I’ve had a lot of fun, but I’ve been thinking about getting out.” He said, not looking at the other man. Ryder frowned, eyes widening a bit in surprise, giving his full attention to Indigo.
“Why?” He inquired.
“You know me.” Indigo gave a nervous chuckle. “I like to switch it up… I need something different. You and me, we’re the best damn team they’ve got right now. We work well together.” He murmured. “I was thinking that, maybe you’d like to come with me?” Ryder blinked at him and looked away, staring into his bubbling beer.
“I can't. I need the money.” Indigo watched him, a sinking feeling in his gut.
“What for? Ryder a guy like you could find work just about anywhere.” He pointed out, taking another sip of beer to calm down.
“Not work that pays as well as this one. I can't afford to make less.” Ryder said simply. “Not even long enough to find another job.”
“I see…” Indigo nodded, understanding that the man would decline. “I was hoping you’d come along, but I get it… and it’s not like we won’t see each other every now and again” Indigo offered.
“You should just stay with the group, Indigo...” Ryder frowned and clenched his cup, upset with the turn of events.
“I’ve been at this gig for too long, Ryder. I need to- I need to be free.” He said softly. “We’ll still be in touch, you know?”
“I guess. You do know they’ll come after you though, if you just get up and go. Boss doesn't like that.” Ryder replied.
“I think I’ve been in the business long enough to know how to protect myself. Don’t go worrying about me.” Indigo reassured, a playful tone to his voice.
“I wasn’t worrying.” Ryder said with an embarrassed huff, turning his face away from the dark haired man.
“Oh really?” Indigo asked, unbelieving. He contemplated Ryder for a moment. “You’re not worried about finding another partner. Right? Not worried about not having enough fun when I’m gone, yeah?”
“No. Why would I.” Ryder mumbled, frowning into his amber cup.
“No?” Indigo poked at the man gently. “Well I’m glad then…” He sighed softly. Ryder glanced at him sullenly and sipped at his beer. “Maybe... a little bit...” He mumbled, hoping he wouldn’t be heard over the music. Indigo’s eyes snapped up and he felt a grin tug at his lips moving to hide it behind his beer glass.
“I’m not sure when I’m going to go but you know when I do. I’ll have to just pack up and go so we might not see each other for a little while.” Indigo watched the man beside him. “Don’t take it personally, okay? I’ve had a lot of partners, Ryder. A lot. Yet, you- well, No one quite compares. You have talent, kid.” Ryder frowned and his jaw clenched slightly. His light maroon eyes glanced at Indigo before he silently took another drink of his beer.
“You’ll find another partner, anyway, we came to have fun.” He shrugged off the subject, taking a drink and turning in his seat to face his partner. “You want to dance?” He asked jokingly. Ryder huffed at Indigo and glanced at him.
“I can't dance.” He said, tone dry as a desert.
“I can. I’ll teach you.” Indigo shot back, grinning. Ryder snorted slightly and looked away without answering.
“Is that a yes?” Ryder huffed and turned so he was facing Indigo. “It wasn’t a no.” Indigo smirked and held out a hand.
“Well, come on then.” He said eagerly. Ryder eyed Indigo’s hand and stood on his own, ignoring it. Indigo hopped up, unfazed. He moved past the smaller male and led the way to a less populated part of the dance floor.
“The main thing is just to relax.” He said, speaking louder to be heard over the music. Ryder followed him and glanced around, uncomfortable around so many people.
“I am relaxed.” Ryder replied.
“I think you need another drink.” Indigo laughed, shaking his head. “If this is your relaxed.” He nodded his head to the beat of the song playing and slowly started bouncing along. He grabbed Ryder’s hands and began to swing their arms. Indigo chuckled at the unamused look claiming Ryder’s face and spun the smaller man around, making a grab for his other hand.
“You’re not moving at all. Come on!” Indigo prodded, momentarily letting go of the man’s hands, instead sliding his own down to the smaller man’s waist, forcing him to move his hips. “Like that!” Indigo said cheekily.
“I feel ridiculous.” Ryder muttered, no longer sure what to do with his hands, letting them drop back down to his sides.
“You look fine.” Indigo reassured. “Here, okay. Keep moving just like that, then take your hands like this.” He took the man’s hands and raised them with his own, moving his own hips and swaying both of their hands in the air.
Ryder moved the way Indigo told him to, feeling out of place, he glanced up blinking at how close together they were. It was a bit unsettling. “I feel silly.” He muttered, dropping his gaze as he felt his ears heat up with embarrassment.
“You don’t look silly.” Indigo assured him, smiling kindly. “You look like you’re having fun.” He laughed, twirling Ryder around playfully before throwing their hands up again and swinging to the music.
Ryder jerkily followed Indigo’s movements, nearly falling over his own two feet with Indigo’s quick tugs. He looked up through his hair at Indigo accusingly “I always look like I'm having fun.” He snapped back, Ryder’s expression telling Indigo he wasn’t.
“No you always look like you’re working.” Indigo corrected, swinging him around again. “But not now…” He mused, smirking. Ryder huffed embarrassed as he mentally disagreed with Indigo. “You’re getting the hang of it.” Indigo encouraged letting go of the smaller man. Ryder stopped moving the second Indigo let go of his hands and watched him passively. The man swung his hips to the beat of the music, hands thrown in the air, almost like he had nothing to worry about.
Ryder gazed at the dark haired man and Imagined the man had wings. He looked free.
“Woo!” Indigo cheered, “Come on, Ryder. Dance!” Ryder rose an eyebrow watching the man stumble slightly. Alcohol was probably taking effect, and the brunette knew from past experience that Indigo didn’t do well on holding his drinks.
Indigo rolled his eyes and grabbed Ryder’s arm and pulled him back into the dance, holding Ryder hostage by his hips, forcing the small man to dance with him. “Like that! You’re good at it.” Indigo laughed, words beginning to slur.
“I think you’ve had too much to drink.” Ryder deadpanned, his maroon eyes meeting Indigo’s blue orbs. “Oh no, if you let me have my way, we are just getting started.” Indigo replied, moving his hands away to swing them pointlessly in the air.
“I disagree.” Ryder mumbled, knowing he wouldn’t be heard over the booming music and instead halfheartedly dancing.
“Would you care for another drink?” Indigo yelled over the music, leaning a bit too close to Ryder, making the man flinch back out of reflex.
“N-no, I'm not really supposed to be drinking anyway.” He found himself hurriedly saying only to flinch again, snapping his mouth shut in slight alarm. His thoughts had scrambled when Indigo was so close to his face.
“Oh? Why is that?” Indigo purred, leaning even closer. Ryder felt his ears heat up and he shifted slightly, deciding to just say it. It wasn’t really a secret...
“I'm underage.”
“Really?” Indigo asked, surprise coloring his tone. “So I’m guilty of distributing alcohol to a minor? How old are you?” He asked playfully, despite his surprise. Ryder huffed and shifted again.
“Nineteen.” He deadpanned.
“Huh… old enough then.” Indigo grinned, shaking his head in disbelieve. Ryder was always full of surprises. Surprises and mysteries. He looked to be at least twenty-five yet only nineteen. Indigo wrapped his arms around the boy in a loose hug. “What do you say we go home and have some legal fun?”
“When you say legal fun, it sounds like you're pretending it’s not illegal.” Ryder said rolling his eyes, leaning away slightly.
“It’s legal I promise. The only legal thing I’ll be doing all day.” He snorted in amusement.
“If you say so.” Ryder said doubtfully.
“I do. Alright, out the back.” He slid his hand down to grab Ryder’s pulling him away from the pole and heading for the back door.
“Aye!” The bartender called to him angrily.
“Faster.” Indigo giggled as he jogged to the back door and pulled Ryder with him, running down the alley and onto the sidewalk towards their apartment, slowing down to act naturally. “Huh, that was fun.” he said, hardly out of breath. Ryder stumbled after his partner, glancing at him from the corner of his eye. Definitely drunk. The brunette made a soft sound as an agreement, pulling his hand back and shoving them in his pockets turning his gaze ahead as he breathed in the cool air. Indigo threw his arm over Ryder’s shoulder carelessly.
“You’re good company, my friend.” He grinned dumbly, watching the younger man.
“And you're drunk.” Ryder agreed, amusement flickering in his voice.
“I’m not…. drunk.” He hesitated, putting more weight on Ryder as he stumbled forward. Ryder easily managed to hold Indigo up, sliding a hand around his waist and hooking his fingers in a belt loop to help his partner stay steady.
“Uh huh. Sure.” Ryder said not believing him for a second.
“I am so sober.” Indigo grinned, leaning on Ryder. “I’m so sober it hurts.”
“Right.” Ryder pretend to agree as they walked up towards their shared apartment. At least that shady bar was close by. Small mercies. He walked up to the door, easily unlocking it and pulling Indigo in. He started up towards their loft, practically dragging Indigo with him and ignoring the drunk man’s rumblings.
“I'm sure you’re not so drunk you can't walk on your own. You had one beer.” Ryder interrupted softly when the dark haired man insisted on adding more weight to his shoulders. Indigo laughed and ran a hand through his messy hair.
“You are hilarious.” He grinned stupidly up at Ryder. “You could be like… a standup comedian… or something.”
“Uh huh. You're not drunk, my ass.” Ryder grumbled walking up to their door and unlocking it with his free hand. He pushed the door open with his shoulder and dragged Indigo in with him. “Go to bed.” He commanded. Indigo shook his head in an exaggerated motion, losing his balance slightly as his head spun.
“No! We’re going… we’re going… to have legal fun.” He said, slurring slightly.
“Not unless you sober up.” Ryder disagreed, pulling Indigo towards his bedroom.
“Noooo. That would ruin it!” He said in a whiney tone. “Just…. Just trust me okay?” He reached up carelessly and put a finger to Ryders lips briefly. “I… I got this.”
“Uh huh.” Ryder said, rolling his eyes a bit and pulling away from Indigo’s hand.
“Shhh, I know we can do it.” Indigo smiled. “Because… We are like… Bonnie and Clyde except you have to be Bonnie… because Indigo rhymes with Clyde.”
“I see.” Ryder deadpanned, dragging Indigo to his room and practically throwing him on his bed.
“Good night, Indigo.” He said turning to walk out.
“Wait, Bonnie.” He reached out to him, wanting the boy to come back. “I mean… uh, Hunter…Ryder. Comere.” He whined pathetically. Ryder sighed and turned back with an eye roll.
