Here are things,

jumbled, gimcrack, worthless things:

a cheap ring, worn at a hotel

when such things mattered;

a key next to a padlock,

neither meant for the other;

two tickets to an art gallery

and a rail ticket

with the same date.

Here are things,

hidden, shameful, reckless things:

a Polaroid print,

as faded as the memory

of what was photographed;

a decree nisi notification

- but no absolute -

perhaps this drawer

needs closing, now.
