After the slicking rain,
when the sun comes out
and Iris flies overhead,
out of reach except
from the corner of an eye,
as the last steam rises
from an erstwhile puddle,
you glimpse a diamond-sparkle
on pavement flags.
Hopscotching
remaining pools,
you wish for chalk
and pebbles
in your pocket.
Your smile isn't for
the café-terrace waitress,
but you get one
in return.

So many smiles. It's the sun,
So many smiles. It's the sun, they say.
