The Rag Doll's Clothes (I Am Not Invisible)

I’m wearing them with irony,
the best accessory.
They cover more than
imperial rags ever did,
and should provoke less scorn.
I shoplift from Oxfam and
blag from recycling bins.
My eye for colour is undiminished,
I combine in cacophonous clashes;
odd shoes, green and red,
A dress in azure blue and brown stripes.
See me, notice me,
I am here on your high street.
I am not invisible.

Loads of stuff is shoplifted
Loads of stuff is shoplifted from charity shops in England. The shoplifters think that because the stock was donated it has no real monetary value so they're not really stealing. I've known many an elderly volunteer who has given up their job in these places because of the threatening behaviour of the punters. Something I was surprised to learn.
But I get the message. Nobody living on the streets is really invisible until we make them that way. Some of us aren't very nice people..
