We danced, so close - and real slow -
to Harold Melvin singing sweet
from a parked car’s radio.
There were flags in the street;
the band had gone home.
We still shuffled our feet
and we danced alone.
Do you still have those shoes?
I play that record every day
so I’ll never lose
the blue memory of your sway.

The extra beat at the end
The extra beat at the end makes the whole thing hang there like a sad echo. Clever.

The love I lost......if you don' know me by now.....memories of my own recalled by your finely worded poem. I loved the image it created....so tender and beautiful.
