an’ see sticky wullie followed ye hame

    efter walkin’ in they fields

      wi’the coos

an’ aw the moos

    jist like the soun’ o’ little brothers bein’ born

 

                                         an’ the coos were big, maun

                         looked awfy small in thon

leddybird book o’ the countryside

- ye ken fer why it’s callit that, aye -

                  a whole week’s campin’, no’ wan day dry

 

an’ the trip hame stunk

                   o’ jackie feenan’s sick

                                an his mam had tae clean him up

                                         an’ offered tae dae the bus

                                                  the driver laughed an’ ah dinnae ken why

 

                                                     wee ‘eck picked a flooh-wer

                                              tae gie tae his maw

                                 and tho’ it hadnae a petal left

                    when we got hame

she was still greetin’ jist the same

I loved this read and the name for the plant too. I imagine it was the inspiration for velcro-which make me suppose there is nothing man can know, that nature hasn't shown us.smiley

Yes :0) My son thought it was magic, too! I remember we were walking along and he was bored and I showed him. Then we'd throw it at each other on the way to and from school. But it didn't stick to my coat, thank goodness! And I 'd have to make sure none was stuck to him before he went in, but luckily was too quick for me to stick much on :0)

I loved your description of the cows and the rain and the whole story inside, though not sure I understood the last bit properly

Wee 'Eck is a nickname: it means Little Hector, (a common name in the Highlands, but most of my aunts and uncles had moved to the big city and its environs by the time I visited), often used when there are two (or more) Hectors in company, to differentiate between them.

"flooh-wer" is a rendition of how some say flower up there in the land of my father and "greetin'" is Scots for crying.

IIt's amazing how you have written this in the very shape of the plant. Really enjoyed this tribute to a sticky, funny little plant.
