These Are The Good Times

These are the good times,

though the floss-haired loon

holds the levers of power,

such a sweaty palm

will surely slip?

These are the good times,

we have no rickets,

white death or polio;

no such disease

will torture us.

These are the good times,

no Samaritans here,

with money-dark desires

and their dollars in

un-calloused hands.

These are the good times,

we can die on trolleys,

indoors, protected

from the elements

and witnesses.

These are the good times

for there are others

fleeing to our fortune,

from depredation

and disaster.

These are the good times:

we should believe it

against all proofs

and evidence

before our eyes
