Darren Shan Inspired Poem (Contains Spoilers)

Foreword; Darren Shan is one of my fave writers and has been since I was 10. The first book I ever read of his was Cirque Du Freak and I decided to write a poem based on the book. WARNING SPOILERS

There once were two boys; Steve Leopard and Darren Shan

Steve loved horror and longed to be a part of the vampire clan

Steve met Larten Crepsley at the wonderful Cirque Du Freak

But unbeknownst to him, up in the balcony did Darren peek

Larten was a vampire strong and bold and true

Yet when he tasted Steve's blood he grimaced and said 'no this just won't do'

Steve cursed and swiftly ran away

While Darren stole Larten's performing spider without much delay

Darren had always loved spiders ever since he was small

Yet stealing Madam Octa was a very bad call

For a while things seemingly went well

Until Octa bit Steve before he had any time to yell

Octa was poisonous and Steve was on limited time

So now Darren had to find the vampire and confess his crime

He hoped the vampire would save his best friend

Or at least had a cure that he could recommend

But the vampire wanted to bargain and do a simple trade

Darren would be his assistant and live a life in the shade

In return Larten would keep his word and save Darren's friend Steve

Darren agreed but thought he could live a normal life (or so he believed)

Steve was saved and was himself in no time at all

Yet the vampire blood in Darren did surely call

Darren soon knew he had to leave his human life behind

So with a heavy heart he bid his family silent goodbyes before he could change his mind

With Larten's help they faked Darren's death

Darren was given a potion to slow his heart and to stem his breath

Then Larten broke his neck and threw him off the roof

And when Darren's family found his body they felt it was enough proof

The death was ruled accidental and they buried him as soon as they could

Deep in the ground within a coffin made solely out of wood

Larten dug Darren up and told him to go for a stroll

While Larten closed the coffin and filled the deep hole

Darren was glad to stretch and be above the ground

When a figure leapt out of the shadows without a sound

The figure was Steve who saw Darren as a traitor

Steve vowed revenge on them and that he would deal with them both later

He swore he would be a vampire killer when he was much older

Then ran into the night without looking over his shoulder

Darren didn't tell Larten foolishly thinking Steve wouldn't cause them a future fight

So abandoning his worries the vampire and his assistant set off into the night
