You loved me then, what changed?
Was it the innocence of youth,
Embracing of the new,
The new arms who held you, the young hands that felt their way?
You loved my smile, my laugh,
It opened up a path for you, a path you said you'd follow,
Eternally forever.
The innocence of youth dictates a forever that terrified,
Scared me into depression, then eternal submission.
I loved you then, I love you now,
But cannot forget the you that loved me then.
You loved me then, the carefree love of youth,
Makes me feel so tired,
So old.
Your smile was like an open door,
That changed my world,
Rocked it to the core.
How can we love so freely when love is hackneyed
by its own lost youth?
