A dedication to Brenda

Brenda
Her roots began in Scotland… In a different century,
They had a castle and a clan… the local gentry!
But she was born in Walkley… in the middle of a war,
They broke the mould when she was born…she was like no other, that’s for sure.
She grew up in a different age… before they had CD’s,
And then she had 2 daughters… who now are OAP’s!
Although she had a long life… she had a hard life too,
But she had a sense of humour… and that’s what got her through.
In later years she stayed at home… she didn’t get out that much,
But all her family and her friends… liked to keep in touch.
Whenever they would visit… they would come in off the street,
And before they took their coats off… she’d offer them a sweet!
She started a collection of dolls… and cuddly toys,
She liked things that were colourful… and things that made a noise.
She saved money in brown envelopes… for when her bills came round,
But she always managed somehow… to give the kids a pound
And without fail on Thursdays… she wouldn’t forget to mention
“When you go shopping, on South Road”… “Don’t forget my pension!”
So… We’re here today for Brenda… to show her that we cared,
Let’s not be sad; let’s celebrate… her life that we all shared
We were lucky to have known her… she really was a gem!
A mum, a gram, a sister… an auntie and a friend
So Brenda if you’re listening… or watching from above
We really, really miss you… and we send you all our love!

A lovely memorial poem. The
A lovely memorial poem. The title leaped out at me - I am in the process of writing something with the same title - but the good friend that I lost recently was quite another Brenda!. She also had 2 daughters - but they are far from being OAPs! A nice light touch here FBF.
