How lucky am I (For my wife on our 25th wedding anniversary)

At Swanwick conference centre… whilst queuing for my tea
I caught the eye of a gorgeous girl… as she was watching me

At eighteen I was out for fun… I was cheeky, brash and loud
But I liked the look of this young girl… she stood out from the crowd

She was chatting with her cousin… and I was with my friend
I told him “It’s my lucky day”… I didn’t want it to end

There was an instant spark between us… we really hit it off
But the conference ended quickly… and I went back home to Wath

I didn't think I'd see her again... so I was like a sulky teen
But within a week a letter came… and she sounded rather keen

The next few months were wonderful… we really had a blast
But we were young and broke and far apart… so it was destined not to last

A few years later we met up again… I was nervous and excited
It was like we’d never been apart… and the spark was re-ignited

Within a month we got engaged… we didn’t want to wait
And we married one year later… in the summer of 88

Our married life became complete… with the arrival of our boys
They brought us joy, they brought us pain… and they brought us lots of noise

All marriages have their ups and downs… and we’ve had our fair share
But ours will stand the test of time… unlike my greying hair!

I knew back then as I know now… we’ll never be apart
She’s in my head, she is my life… and she’s always in my heart

She makes me smile, she makes me laugh… I can’t believe my luck
To find someone who’s gorgeous… and someone who can cook!

I'm still extremely happy… and I hope that she is too
And the love that I feel is just as strong… as the day I said “I do”

The last twenty five years was a chapter… in the wonderful book of our life
And I’m lucky that I got to spend it… with Melanie my beautiful wife
