Day gathers in
till the space around me
seems all that's left awake.
Round the field
bare earth welt through green pelt
of dew secret grass
I walk the wound path
trailed by shadow.
Midges shuffle air;
moths' fragile,
moonlight refracting flight
gifts cool petals,
brush my face.
I wish I could teach them
the belief you reach so easily
is worth less
than the truth you'll never touch.
