Our day at the beach

I said to she let's take a trip
in the car
we won't go very far
i'll drive
and we'll feel alive
let's take a dive
I stocked the boot
with apples
and adorned the dashboard with postcards of
our favourite chapels
we made our way
on a clear sunny day
to the beach
but never did reach
the paradise we were owed.
near the end of the road
our plan was foiled
our fruit had spoiled
and there was a green cloud in the air
there
i said to she
it looks like a miasma
i don't want to scare you
but i wouldn't even dare you
to continue
she was annoyed
and cried
what's the problem?
i replied
i know you're pissed
but we have to turn around
or this deadly mist
will kill us both
oh it wasn't fair!
making a u-turn for some foggy air!?
but round we turned,
by the atmosphere spurned,
our throats still burned
from argument
and where we'd went
that strange green scent
lingered and churned
in the rear-view mirror
while the windscreen forward
showed clear-blue skies
and half-true lies
to tell our friends
about our day
at the beach.
