I stared at my shaking hand
It trembled in uncertain fear
 
No avenging sword
No mighty purpose
 
My crusade to save the World
To be a hero adored by all
 
Stripped of pride and power
My basic need to live & breath
 
I need no platitudes
No pedestal plinth of praise
 
Just another humble being
Needy not greedy now I see
 
My path lies with no Earthly shower
I bend the knee before my higher power
 
The mocking Spectre within my lonely soul
Must lurk shadow-chained for another day
 
Now eyes fixed straight ahead
Not baggage-bound we walk together
Led by hope we slowly amble
Be gone fear & greed....
For today we will not gamble

Haven't 'seen' you around awhile, Graham.

I thought this was a realisation that it is in realising our weakness and need ourselves, we can depend more totally on God's strength and provisioning, and for any usefulness in what we attempt in serving him and others? Rhiannon

Not been well Rhiannon.  I   contracted Hepatitis E in July and was suffering from mild depression prior to that.  I have been as active as possible with GA  and I am an editor for New Life (a GA magazine in which we put people's personal shares and poems about gambling) and that has taken up most of my 'up time', but I am coming back to normality.

We were fortunate to see the market place in Sirricusa where St Paul is said to have preached.  My faith is strong and I give what I can in service.

The latest poem is not meant to contradict our faith.  I am having a dig at those who bury their heads in the proverbial sand.  The more I learn of the cosmos the more I love my maker.  Petty squabbles and meanless greed frustrate me.  sorry, rant over.

Sorry to hear of your health struggles, Graham. I hope you keep more well and continue to enjoy the service you do for others and are encouraged, and find encouragement in fellowship with the Lord in Christ, in this earthly pilgrimmage and trials. Rhiannon

I am finally doing what God wants and that is helping others.  My work in GA has given me so much and I am grateful for the chance to serve.
