Splendid Blue

Splendid Blue
In breeding plumage
his world knows no guns,
only the garden sprays
killing his insect food.
Still, he flits and flirts,
happy in his life work.
Seeking shades of brown
and grey among the twigs.
There, a most superb mate
waits, quietly seed-feeding
to proliferate their kind.
A species not in danger - yet.

A lovely perspective.
A lovely perspective. 'Quietly seed-feeding' is a standout line.

A delicately drawn picture,
A delicately drawn picture, Frances. And such a beautiful bird as seen by following your link. Never heard of it, least alone seen it (unless in tropical bird collections maybe, but certainly not in natural surroundings, foraging) I suppose that 'Seeking shades of brown and grey among the twigs.' is indicating the female of subdued colouring. Frances, I am so sorry I
Frances, I am so sorry I missed this latest post of yours. I saw you were logged in, and thought I'd see what you'd been up to and came across this. A delight to read, and the link, a delight to see. I have never heard of the Fairywren, but such fascinating creatures as they are. What a beautiful shade of blue. The only wrens I know are like the one that live in my garden. They are Britain's smallest bird, and hence, used to be depicted on the farthing coin, our smallest...or so it used to be. It was phased out years ago now as its value was only one quarter of an old penny, of which one needed the whopping sum of 240 to the £1.
Anyway, I digress, and I am pleased to read that your beautiful fairywren is quite prolific...but as the last line of your poem suggests, we must all work hard to conserve our wildlife. It is so very precious.
Good to read you again, and a happy World Poet's day to you tomorrow...bearing in mind you are a little nearer that in time than we are here
Tina
