Nature was here first,
long before we were,
before the nations,
before the corruption
before the guns and the bombs,
before the mining, the drilling and the blasting,
before we learned how to exploit innocence.
Now it looks as if the last tree
will be the last church,
its minister the last wild bird,
and hearing its sweet song
will be our last hope of redemption.

I like the stark simplicity of language and device, what more is needed for such a truth as this?
