"Hey Daniel Ray, foods on the table." Danny rolled his eyes and put his iPOD back in his ears, and when he thought that he would go to sleep to forget the hunger that seemed to eat him alive his iPOD ran out of battery. In horror and angst he decided to take a shower, finally. He promised himself he would go down stairs after he was clean and not so tense.
He pulled out his suitcase and took out a dark blue shirt, scratched up jeans with black paint splatters. His doing ofcourse. Larry had bought him ROYAL SLACKS a designer jean from his friend, who he had just made a slogan for. He remembered Larry saying, "Here's some normal jeans. You know what grown ups wear?"
And out of rebellious attitude he made them his own, instead of what Larry wanted him to look like. After Larry saw them he was speechless and left the living room, calling Danny's mother's name.
*Knock Knock*
He rolled his eyes and opened the door. His father stood there in the door way, looking casual but forceful.
"What?" His Dad's eyebrows raised up high and he scratched the bottom of his goatee, and fixed his Gee-Tar hat.
"How about you change your tone, boy."
"How about you rewind my life and actually stick around, and work it out with Mom, and then maybe just maybe I would." He slammed the door on Jerry's face and walked into the bathroom to take a shower.
When he got out of the bathrrom he heard a knock on the door again.
"Go away. Jerry." He said aloud.
"It's Trooper." The little boy said with a straight voice.
"Go away, Trooper." He heard the door open anyways.
"GO AWAY YOU LITTLE MISTAKE!" Trooper just stared at Danny like an angry cow. And when Danny thought he would retreat and walk away Trooper walked closer to him almost in a craze.
"DONT. YOU. EVER. Talk to me like that again. YOU NO GOOD FOR NOTHING, PRETTY BOY. HOW DARE YOU TALK TO MY DADDY LIKE THAT!" HE was almost poking Danny. Danny caught off guard backed up to the window and braced himself.
"Trooper, get out of my room."
"Oh, I'll leave but I'd sleep with one eye open. Oh yeah. One eye open indeed!" He slammed the door and Danny heard him run down the stairs.
Ten minutes passed before Danny decided to go down stairs, not breaking the promise he made him self a shower ago. When he got to the livingroom he noticed Trooper outside by the tire swing just pushing it by himself, almost angry like.
"So, you must be Daniel Ray. I didn't really know you existed really. But I'm glad that you do." An old white lady walked up to him and gave him his breakfast. She had on an apron that said "Nana Knows Best."
"Thanks." Is all Danny spat out.
"You know, Trooper was so excited when he found out ya'll were coming down. It's just him and his imagination that usually keep him company down here, ya know?"
"I'm sorry, you are?"
"I'm Mary Louis. But folks round here just call me Nana. I'm Rosa's best companion around here. Rosa's the cook. I'm the Nanny."
"I see. Well thanks, Nana."
"Oh you do know how to speak. Good gracious praise the lord." She smiled and then walked back into the kitchen as Danny sat at the table.
"Daniel Ray-"
"Pleaaase, just call me Danny."
"Danny, you like pie?" He smirked and then answered.
"Yes. I like pie."
"Great!" She disappeared into the pantry as Trooper walked back in slamming the screen door.
"Trooper Kubenak. Come here." Nana said strictly. Trooper stomped in the kitched eye balling Danny.
"Yes, Ma'am." He said lowly and tight lipped.
"Put a smile on that face, no one like to frown." He forced a smile, not looking at Danny anymore.
"Eat your breakfast, Trooper, I didn't make it for the dogs, ya hear?"
"Yes Ma'am." He forced out taking the plate and putting it on the bar. While hopping in the bar stool not looking at Danny anymore.
"Thanks, Nana-"
"That's Mrs. Mary Louis to you, Daniel Ray." Trooper said grabbing his sausage and taking a huge bite off the top.
"Trooper! That's enough!" Nana fussed at him taking Danny's plate.
It was true Danny didn't like confrontations, but he also didn't like authority and Trooper was full of both, and honestly Danny was a little frightened by him.
