Sin-Eater

See him take your shame
Consume your family’s filth
Bear your loathing and disgust
All with a knowing smile
It is a simple thing,
To make something disappear
It just has to be swallowed down
You would think the weight to much
Yet he continues to stand tall
Pride is his only armor,
And a tattered cloak of dignity,
His only solace
Against weapons of ignorance
See how he wears them
The pauper's king
His purpose now served
You watch his retreat
With a knowing smile
Pride will not feed him
Dignity will not keep him,
From winter’s embrace
How many more years,
Can he defy all man's fate
I would ask you this
Which of you brave souls,
Will stand over him,
When his time has come
And dare to break bread
