Don't Pity Those Who Cannot Love, Pity Those Who Can but Never Do

we watched
with horror, anticipation
and cruel delight
as her eyes faded
and she turned off the light
Sad little girl
So willing to
love
With a heart to fill
time to kill
and yet no one called
we watched as
she twisted her arms
hoping they'd be small enough
to hold herself
but too many empty spaces
leave her hanging in a mess
She promises
This year's love won't die
But when you wish too long
On things that never come
even water runs dry
The trouble
Of words spoken too loud
and Hands touched too soon
is that now she 's found her light
burnt out in June
