i love my sister! i'd ordered cd's off amazon a few weeks ago with her credit card and she sent them to egypt with a friend who gave them to me yesterday. I HAVE NEW MUSIC MAN!
i was getting pretty tired of the brillliant mix cd's nancy had made me (remember how poignant mix tapes were? how the scribbles on the cover and the selection of songs said so much about the person who'd made them for you? and showed you exactly what they thought of you? i miss them- there was something messy and honest and brilliantly hopeful about them- it was like a loveletter, just without the cheese)

so now i have kanye west, john legend, ben harper, pink floyd and gavin degraw.
Gavin Degraw, man! why hasnt anyone told me about him?
i turned up the volume and closed the windows as "i dont want to be" blared out of the speakers and i nearly cried. He is everything i wanted to sing but never found the voice to do so!

genius. i'm not going to go home tonight, i will just drive around till i hear the whole album over and over again.

sometimes i wonder if there are people who dont get high on music that means something, not the oontsoontsoontsoonts dance bullshit, i'm talking the lyrics that make you stop in your shoes and feel a chill in your gut at their superb precision.
i wonder if these words pass over their heads without an itch or even a shake.
if they dont feel, i am sorry for them.
