hot plates

We sit
talk
eat pizza
fries
sugar free apple juice
somehow
we feel tired
and quiet
it's not that late
but we need to leave
all sensing
that someone is missing
too quiet
not enough joy
pulling at the seams of our lips
bursting into smiles
who did we forget?

I clean up
table cloth stained
with juice and tomato ketchup
marshmellows on the blue plates
we tried to toast them
on the candlelights
but they were plastic
and we were tired
only when we went home
only when i slept
did i remember
you
