I Took Him

The sun had already set as I drove
through the busy streets of Medford so he
could buy us two Dairy Queen cheeseburgers
and some fries before we snuck into the
ten o'clock showing of 'The Life Aquatic'
starring Steve Zissou and the blonde Bulldyke
where we laughed our asses off for two hours
prior to heading up town to pick up
a warm Sharis pumpkin pie to share in
the deepest bowl at the empty skate park
amongst shadows and dim streetlights while chatting
about the end of high school, not knowing
I'd fall in love with this skinny, crazy-
haired Canadian who has the clearest
blue eyes and killer abs. When the pie tin
contained only crumbs and two used plastic
forks, he gave me a piggy-back ride to
my black Saturn and we finally rolled
on home at four a.m.
