I will put you under my pillow tonight.
It is as safe as an air-raid shelter,
and warmer.
I will sit, patient, a bunker full of feathers,
heavy as a fire-proof door,
waiting.
We will be rich now. Once a tooth turned
to a £2 coin under my head,
so
I have bought shares in AMCO
and sewn them all
into the linen.
In ancient Greece, they used lodestone,
so we will split a nugget,
half each,
tuck it under both sides, and turn the TV off
when the one you like comes on,
or Heartbeat.
If they come back again I will swing
the hatchet out of the
eiderdown:
and feathers, and premium bonds,
and stocks, will all drop,
like confetti.
