Things That Don’t Matter

Jenny Jones wakes too early,
sometimes in the wrong day.
On Monday she woke up and thought it was Sunday.
No wait.
On Sunday she woke up and thought it was Monday.
She is still confused.
Whilst she should have been happy for an extra day,
(Everyone agreed this is one of the best feelings.)
she couldn’t get out of the wrong day so wasted it.
(Everyone agreed this was a waste)

When she wakes too early
(which happens often)
things that were tiny in the day
suddenly bellow into the room
lurch her into the morning
prop her up and make her say
Have I thinned the carrots Neddy?

Or she worries about the beans,
when she’ll pick them,
if she’ll have to freeze some.
The eggs,
mostly she worries about the eggs.
They have too many.

I like this a lot. And it suggests that things seem to be looking up, as - though Jenny Jones might be seen by some as a teeny-weeny bit strange (and personally I wouldn't say so) - she seems to me to be a positive sort of a soul, gentle and caring. But I want to know more, I feel, things like how she gets on with her cat?, does she have a difficult relationship with her bicycle (I'm assuming she doesn't have a car)?, is she the kind of person who always goes to parties a day or two late or early?, and so forth. Sorry if that's a bit intrusive on your own creative flow, though.

no not at all - this was very much an instant poem, so has a lot of space to continue and develop. I too wanted to put some more in, so it's interesting you picked up on that. She is a wonderful woman she is a children's illustrator and artist. I think maybe it may become prose rather than poetry eventually, we'll see. Thank you very much for your feedback animan. x
