Thinking About You

I should be finishing that novel
I should have done the washing up
I should be out with friends
I should be catching up
I should have checked my mail
I should have polished my shoes
But instead I’m lying here thinking about you
I should be marking books
I should be fixing the drain
I should have unblocked the sink
And cleaned that window pane
I should have walked the dog
I should have cleaned the loo
But instead I’m lying here thinking about you
I should be going to the corner shop
I should be buying milk and bread
I should have brushed my teeth
And flossed just like the dentist said
I should be letting sunlight into this room
But instead I’m lying here thinking about you
I should have grabbed you
When I had the chance
I should have asked you
Did you want to dance?
Now I’m lying in bed
It must be late afternoon
Lying here just thinking about you
I should be making coffee
I should be making plans
I should be watering the plants
I should have called my nan
I should have phoned the phone company
Because the bill was screwed
But I’m still lying here
Thinking about you
I should have cut my nails
I should done the hooverin
I should have sorted out the card and paper
Put it in the recycling
I should have put the washing on
I should have changed that fuse
But I’m still lying in the dark
Thinking about you
I should have grabbed you
When I had the chance
I should have asked you
Did you want to dance?
Now I’m lying in bed
It must be late afternoon
Lying here just thinking about you
